Expected Parrot

Simulate your stakeholders.

We help companies simulate their stakeholders and explore pricing, product, marketing, communications and other high-impact business decisions at scale. We have an open-source library and interactive applications for designing custom agents representing your target audiences and conducting interviews and surveys with them using LLMs of your choice to generate answers. Results are returned as detailed datasets with built-in analytical methods. Everything is cached and reproducible, and you can automatically send the same surveys to real human respondents to calibrate agents and validate answers at any time. You can use your own API keys for LLMs or get a unified key from E[P] that provides access to all available models and comes with $25 in credits for API calls to get started.

Expected Parrot: Simulate your customers with AI agents
See original launch post

Hi everyone, we’re Robin and John, co-founders of Expected Parrot.

TLDR:

User research is expensive, slow, and hard to do well. Expected Parrot makes it radically cheaper, faster and easier.

We let you simulate customers with AI agents—run surveys, test pricing, get reactions to new features—before spending money on conventional research or building the wrong thing. Our tools make it easy to optimally combine human and AI generated data to run the best possible versions of your experiments.

Expected Parrot: Simulate your customers.

How it works:

Turn your customer data into AI agent personas, then run them through surveys just like you would with real people. Get instant results you can compare directly to human responses. E[P] provides the open source tools and services to validate these simulated results to increase confidence.

We offer a web app (for PMs, designers, and researchers) and a Python library (for data scientists who want full control). Surveys are the interface—expressive, familiar, and perfect for comparing AI to real human data.

Use it for:

  • Pricing strategy: simulate hundreds of variations, estimate revenue
  • Product testing: find confusion before you build
  • Message testing: iterate on positioning at machine speed
  • Policy and legal: explore stakeholder reactions to different arguments

Key features:

We handle all the plumbing—prompt engineering, async execution, structured parsing, caching, API management. Researchers focus on questions, not debugging Python or juggling API keys.

With conventional research, you have an idea, you design a survey, launch it, wait 2 weeks and then learn you didn't quite ask the right question—and you spent several thousand dollars. With E[P], you can design a survey, generate agents, run the survey and get results in seconds.

Traction:

We’re working with tech companies like Upwork, a global consulting firm, and users in banking, entertainment, consumer products, government statistical agencies, and non-profits. Our open source tools are being taught in business and CS programs at many universities.

About us:

Robin (CEO), who led legal and regulatory data science at Uber, has seen firsthand how the right tools can unlock productivity. John (CTO), a professor at MIT, was conducting research with his PhD students on how to use AI simulations in economics (here, here and here) but found existing tools inadequate. We started building our tools because we needed them, and we started building the platform when we realized others needed them as well.
